In this section you should produce your database system, along with your newsletter and, for A*-A grades, a spreadsheet to caculate the income. As you go along you must start to build up a record of how you developed your system, including screen shots to explain the various stages of your work. You should allow half of the time available for the completion of thie section.
Your database
Produce a database with four tables
- Customers
- DVDs
- Games
- Hire details
See the guide for details on the fields you will need to create for each field.
Then you need to produce the queries which Debbie needs
- A list of members in alphabetical order by surname
- A report of overdue discs and who has them
- A report showing 18 classification discs available for hire
You should print-out the following
- An annotated screen dump of the table design (field details) for one of your tables
- Your four tables
- Your three queries, with a screen print of your query design for each.
Your newsletter
Produce a newsletter in Word
Include -
- the customer's name and address
- a greeting for the customer including their name
- a logo for Disc Central
- at least one image
- information on current DVDs and Games for hire
You should now mail-merge the letter to all of your members
You should print out the following
- The newsletter with the merge fields set
- The newsletter for one of your customers (take care not to print 20!)
You should now repeat this process for a specialist newsletter e.g. for horror movies. Your address list will come from a query of your database, identifying horror movie customers only.
A spreadsheet in Excel (A/A* only) which takes its information from the database and calculates the income made in a month.
